Every year in December, I go through a personal reflection and planning process that I call “31 Days to Reset Your Life.”
I take this time during the last month of the year to pause and press the “reset” button. This is when I give myself the space to journal about what my life looks like right now and get clear on what I want the coming year to look like.
If you’d like to do the program with me and dozens of amazing women in our Happy Black Woman community, click here to get started. You will be able to download the program materials, join our private Facebook group and get access to 2 live calls throughout the month.

For today, I just wanted to share my own responses for Day 1 of the 31 Days to Reset Your Life Challenge to inspire you in your own year-end reflection process.
My Reset Notebook

This year, I am using a cranberry Moleskine soft cover notebook to document my 31 Day Reset journey, as seen in the picture along with my favorite journaling pen, the Pilot G2 black ballpoint. Yes, I am very particular about my writing tools!
My Personal Mantra for 2016
A mantra is a positive phrase, affirmative statement or a “motto” that you say to yourself for the purpose of motivation or encouragement. This could be your favorite quote, proverb, spiritual truth or religious saying.
For 2016, my personal mantra is an inspiring quote from Elizabeth Gilbert.
“Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings.” ― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love
I love Elizabeth’s quote because it reminds me that I am in always charge of my own happiness. Always.
My Theme Song for 2016
Your theme song is the song you would want following you around during your daily journey to create a new reality for your life. It should be a song that brings about some kind of motivation or inspiration for you.
For 2016, my theme song is “I Believe” by Christina Perri.
I stumbled upon this song on Spotify earlier this year and the lyrics really touched me. It’s about truth, vulnerability and resilience. It’s about how connected we all are as we walk this path to our own happiness.
My favorite line comes at the end of the song:
This is not the end of me; this is the beginning.
The song has so much power in its inspirational lyrics that it reminds me to tap into my own power in 2016 as things shift and change in different areas of my life.

Leave a comment: What will YOUR personal mantra and theme song be for 2016?

Rosetta Thurman is a nationally-recognized author, speaker, mentor and coach dedicated to helping women create their ideal lives.
I started using personal mantras/phrases a few years ago when I traveled to Argentina. I had a rafting accident, which lead me to adopt the mantra: feel the fear and do it anyway. That really pushed and motivated me in my business pursuits. That year, I became more bold and courageous about becoming visible and selling my products.
In 2016, my mantra is a word: ACCOMPLISHED. I am accomplished in my business.
Along with my mantra, I usually select a color that serves as a reminder. I’ll purchase a laptop cover, iphone cover, notebook, and pen in that color to serve as a reminder!
I’m still thinking about that song though. Maybe, Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys! I’m going to continue to think about this one. ;)
Thanks for sharing, Rosetta!
It’s always nice to see two people that I admire sharing their experiences and uplifting others. Jennifer & Rosettam thank you for the inspiration. I’m thinking about a mantra for the year. Maybe, “Be the whole person you came to the world to be.” Or “Everything is pushing me to my greatest self.” The idea of a song resonates with my commitment to harmony. I’ll contemplate that. Thanks again.
