Give People Permission to Help You

August 13, 2016 | By Rosetta |

Black woman enjoying the ocean view until waves come

I’ve been quiet lately, as my team and I have been working behind the scenes on some very important projects here at Happy Black Woman Headquarters!

On Thursday, we officially started our 2016 Location Independent Business Academy with over 100 amazing women enrolled.

Next week, I’ll be traveling to Tucson, Arizona to host a special 3-day Mastermind Retreat with 23 of my high-level clients at Miraval, one of the top luxury wellness resorts in the world.

And just a few weeks after THAT, I’ll be hosting my exclusive Happy Black Woman Luxury Mastermind Retreat here in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii!

Yet, in the midst of all this amazingness…

Life does what it does.

I’ve had to deal with some business breakdowns, health challenges, family issues and even an argument with my boo :(

Of course, my default behavior is to go into Superwoman mode.

“I can fix this.”

“I can figure it out.”

“I can do this on my own.”

But then I get tired. Burnt out. Frustrated.

And all I want to do is cry and eat ice cream.

That’s when I know I need help.

That’s when I have to let go of my pride and call in the people on my “happy team” to lift me up.

How to Stop Shortchanging Yourself and Increase Your Self-Worth

March 29, 2016 | By Rosetta |

piggybank

Last week, I went to Lenscrafters to buy some new eyeglasses.

As I walked over to the wall of designer frames, the salesperson steered me toward the lower-priced options instead.

“Just to let you know, the further you go down the wall, the more expensive the frames get,” she explained.

Her tone seemed genuinely helpful, not condescending.

Still, I hadn’t asked her anything about price, so I was curious as to what made her mention it.

“I’m not concerned with how much they cost,” I replied with a smile.

“I just want to get the best frames to fit my face.”

She looked surprised and proceeded to hand me a little tray to place my selections on.

This exchange in the eyeglass store made me think back to the conversations we used to have about money in my family when I was a kid.

Your Background Influences Your Beliefs About Money

Growing up, my family did not have much money. In fact, my mom, my sister and I lived in the public housing projects in Ohio for many years.

I was taught to “bargain shop” for everything from food to clothes, shoes and cars.

I saw my mom, grandmother and aunt always cutting corners when it came to their desires.

So I thought that’s how I was supposed to operate in my own life.

I thought I had to shortchange myself when it came to my own needs.

That meant Wal-Mart underwear instead of Victoria Secret panties.

That meant getting groceries at Save-a-Lot instead of Whole Foods’ gourmet items.

Of course, this mindset served me well as a struggling college student, but as I got older and earned enough money from my job (and now my business) to be able to invest in nicer things for myself…

I felt GUILTY doing so.

Even though my bank account was bigger, I still felt like I should be picking out the lowest-priced clothes, shoes, food and cars.

It took me YEARS to finally stop buying those Payless shoes that hurt my feet and my back!

But once I started to see myself as worthy of having the very BEST in every area of my life, my money mindset completely changed.

Whenever I wanted something, I began to ask myself a very simple question:

Am I worth it?

The answer was always YES, which motivated me to figure out how to get whatever it is that I wanted.

I began to honor my own value when I stopped limiting myself only to what was “on sale.”

Despite my upbringing, I became willing to pay full price for ME.

How to Stop Shortchanging Yourself

Today, I invite you to think of an area of your life where you have been shortchanging yourself.

It could be as simple as buying the cheapest ice cream in the grocery store instead of getting the name brand you really want, just so you can save 50 cents.

This week, go ahead and splurge on the organic vanilla bean gelato or whatever.

It’s not the actual item that matters.

It’s the willingness to put higher value on YOU and your desires.

Put your money where your mouth is and you will find your sense of self-worth increasing in both significant and subtle ways, including asking for a raise at work or doubling your rates in your business.

Now just to be clear, I’m NOT talking about putting yourself into debt purchasing things you have absolutely no means of paying for.

What I’m saying is to buy yourself the BEST you can afford instead of automatically picking the cheapest option.

An Affirmation for Increasing Your Self-Worth

It may be helpful for you to repeat the following affirmation during this process of transforming your mindset:

“AFFIRMATION: I deserve the best of everything in life and I am ready to receive it now.”

What if…

Every time you asked yourself the question, “Am I worth it?” the answer was YES?

My 3 Theme Words for 2016

January 3, 2016 | By Rosetta |

2016 theme“Just breathe and fly. Enter your day and breathe and live.” – Mark Nepo

Over the past month, I have been in deep thought about the kind of life I want to create in 2016 as part of my year-end reflection process using my 2015-2016 Annual Review/Preview Reflection Guide. If you haven’t completed your own review/preview yet, I highly encourage you to do so. Reflection is one of the most powerful tools for personal development!

Click here to download the free review/preview guide

The truth is…

Life is not a dress rehearsal.

Unfortunately, you don’t know how much time you have left on earth to fulfill your purpose and enjoy your blessings.

The good news is that we have a lot more control over the journey than we think.

In fact, one of the best lessons I have learned over the last few years is that I get to choose.

I get to choose how I live my life.

I get to choose how I spend my time (and who I spend it with).

I get to choose how I want to show up in the world.

And so do you!

Since you get to choose…

What are you choosing to experience in 2016?

I am choosing:

Joy.

I am committed to doing more of the things that bring me joy and letting go of the things (and people) that no longer make me happy.

Ease.

I am curious about all the ways I can invite more ease into my life, from managing my business to strengthening my relationships to organizing my personal affairs and finances.

Flow.

I am craving the experience of being fully present and hyper-focused on just a handful of writing and client projects this year. I feel a new work coming through me, which requires dedicated creative space and time to be “in the zone.”

What about you?

What are your theme words for 2016?

My Personal Mantra and Theme Song for 2016

December 1, 2015 | By Rosetta |

Inscription of the year 2016 written in the wet yellow beach sand

Every year in December, I go through a personal reflection and planning process that I call “31 Days to Reset Your Life.”

I take this time during the last month of the year to pause and press the “reset” button. This is when I give myself the space to journal about what my life looks like right now and get clear on what I want the coming year to look like.

If you’d like to do the program with me and dozens of amazing women in our Happy Black Woman community, click here to get started. You will be able to download the program materials, join our private Facebook group and get access to 2 live calls throughout the month.

CLICK HERE TO BEGIN THE 31 DAYS TO RESET YOUR LIFE PROGRAM

For today, I just wanted to share my own responses for Day 1 of the 31 Days to Reset Your Life Challenge to inspire you in your own year-end reflection process.

My Reset Notebook

IMG_4152

This year, I am using a cranberry Moleskine soft cover notebook to document my 31 Day Reset journey, as seen in the picture along with my favorite journaling pen, the Pilot G2 black ballpoint. Yes, I am very particular about my writing tools!

My Personal Mantra for 2016

A mantra is a positive phrase, affirmative statement or a “motto” that you say to yourself for the purpose of motivation or encouragement. This could be your favorite quote, proverb, spiritual truth or religious saying.

For 2016, my personal mantra is an inspiring quote from Elizabeth Gilbert.

“Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings.”  ― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love

I love Elizabeth’s quote because it reminds me that I am in always charge of my own happiness. Always.

My Theme Song for 2016

Your theme song is the song you would want following you around during your daily journey to create a new reality for your life. It should be a song that brings about some kind of motivation or inspiration for you.

For 2016, my theme song is “I Believe” by Christina Perri.

I stumbled upon this song on Spotify earlier this year and the lyrics really touched me. It’s about truth, vulnerability and resilience. It’s about how connected we all are as we walk this path to our own happiness.

My favorite line comes at the end of the song:

This is not the end of me; this is the beginning.

The song has so much power in its inspirational lyrics that it reminds me to tap into my own power in 2016 as things shift and change in different areas of my life.

If you’d like to do the 31 Days to Reset Your Life program in community with other amazing women in our Happy Black Woman tribe, click here to get started now.

31 Days to Reset Your Life is a month-long personal transformation experience that will show you how to press the “reset” button and start living the life you really want. Each day, you will be given an exercise and journaling assignment that will help you become happy, successful and free in 2016. This program will especially be of benefit to you if you’ve felt stuck or in a rut during the past year.

31 Days to Reset Your Life is for anyone who wants to manifest a change in their life, design a more fulfilling existence, make room for new possibilities or simply gain more clarity about their path to happiness and success.

4 Spiritual Truths I Re-Learned After Having Surgery in Paris

June 17, 2015 | By Rosetta |

image1 (1)

“Every problem is a gift – without problems we would not grow.” ― Tony Robbins

I’ve been in Paris for over a week now.

But instead of enjoying the sights in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, I’ve been mostly visiting the inside of the Georges Pompidou Hospital.

My plan was to hit the ground running here in the “City of Light” with tours and cooking classes and everything else but instead…

I got hit with a serious nail infection that resulted from a salon manicure I had in Atlanta a few weeks ago. The medical term for the infection is a paronychia and excuse my French, but that shit hurts!

Combine that with the worst jet lag ever and you have a pretty rocky beginning to what was supposed to be a wonderful trip.

It all started with swelling and gradually became worse over the next few days. Of course, my first instinct was to look up my symptoms on the internet and sure enough, it looked and sounded like I had a severe paronychia.

I got an appointment with the nearest “general” doctor, who instructed me to soak my finger in alcohol. That didn’t work AT ALL.

Then, I looked up some home remedies and started soaking my finger in lemon juice and hot water, which helped with the pain but didn’t do anything for the infection that was growing under my skin. I’ll spare you the actual visual but basically, the skin around my nail was starting to look like I had gangrene!

It was time to get myself to the nearest emergency room.

Once I got to the hospital, it took some patience and a divine sense of calm to communicate the care I needed when maybe 1 out of 10 medical personnel spoke any English whatsoever. Using my remedial French and lots of gestures, I finally got in to see a specialist.

The doctor confirmed my biggest fear – the only way to fix the issue was to have surgery on my finger to remove the infection.

***

The night before surgery, I go to dinner at Le Poincaré, an open air bistro/cafe on the corner near my hotel.

The wind is cool as the sun sets on the city like a blanket.

I order steak and frites and eat slowly, savoring every bite like it’s my last meal.

I relish my glass of vin rouge and fall in love with the restaurant’s famous Nutella & Speculoos tiramisu for dessert.

I sip my espresso, annoyed at the situation that’s messing up my travel plans, but I also notice a strange sense of relief.

It’s the feeling of letting go of my need for control. It’s giving myself permission to slow down and listen to what my body needs right now – rest and healing.

Needless to say, being stuck in a hospital in a foreign country gave me a chance to reflect on some important spiritual reminders.

How to Spend a Week in Cancun

April 22, 2015 | By Rosetta |

2014-11-26 10.33.49Back in November, I treated myself to the good life for a week in Mexico!

The first resort I stayed at was Sandos Cancun Luxury Experience Resort. This was an all-inclusive resort, meaning all your meals, cocktails and many amenities are included in the cost of your room – even 24-hour room service!

Sandos Cancun was definitely the kind of place you go to chill ALL the way out for a week-long vacation. In fact, one of my favorite afternoons was spent on the beach just eating, drinking tamarind margaritas and falling asleep to the waves.

3 Lessons I Learned From Hiring An Image Consultant

February 19, 2015 | By Rosetta |

2015-02-17 17.07.00

Me and my image consultant Liana at her Beverly Hills studio

I’m in San Diego right now for another few days of learning, networking and FUN with my business mentor and my fellow mastermind members.

I’m enjoying my last week in California before I head back to Hawaii to soak up the sunshine and not have to wear a jacket anymore.

Last night, me and my girl Kristen had a wonderful dinner at Fleming’s Steakhouse in La Jolla and let me tell you…their lobster bisque is off the chain!

Anyway, today I wanted to share a part of my personal development journey for this year.

I’ve been stretching myself in line with my 2015 theme of “fun, love and adventure.”

I’ve been asking myself how I can show up more fully in my life and in my work – for myself and for my tribe of amazing women?

One of my big investments I wanted to make in myself this year was in the area of self-love – to give myself the gift of looking better and feeling better in my body.

Now that I’m in my 30s, my body is beginning to change and I know my personal style is overdue for a change as well.

Not to mention all the events and travel I have to do for my business, which is requiring me to step it up a bit in the clothing department!

So last month, I hired an image consultant.

How to Write a Love Letter to Your Future Self

February 14, 2015 | By Rosetta |

Thinking

“If you aren’t good at loving yourself, you will have a difficult time loving anyone, since you’ll resent the time and energy you give another person that you aren’t even giving to yourself.” — Barbara De Angelis

When you look around your life, you have a lot to be grateful for. But you also likely have some areas that you would like to improve.

By now, you probably know that setting goals is a great way to begin the process of creating your ideal life.

But what can you do to lift yourself up as you go through the stages of pursuing those goals?

Well, one of the most creative ways to manifest your big goals is to write them down in the form of a love letter.

No, not to your romantic partner — to yourself.

Here’s an idea.
