HBW 002: From Hobby to Full-Time Business for a Stay At Home Mom with LaShanda Henry

October 5, 2015 | By Rosetta |

happy black woman podcast_feat _LaShanda Henry_capitals_72dpi

LaShanda Henry has been developing websites for over 10 years. She owns over 15 web properties and is most passionate about two things: creating positive websites for people of color and helping women entrepreneurs learn how to build successful businesses online. In her own words, “My life’s mission is to motivate, inform, inspire, and connect. With my mother in mind, I do what I do for parents looking to better their children’s lives and for women striving to live their dreams. I love to share information and build communities online. It’s what I do and who I am.” LaShanda is Rosetta’s guest on this episode of Happy Black Woman, so grab a drink and a notepad and come meet this amazing woman!

On a mission to use technology as a tool of positive change!

LaShanda Henry is on a mission to use technology within the black community online and at home. She’s a work at home mom with a passion for building websites and helping other women like me make sense of making money online. She’s done it herself and knows how to help others do it too. One look at her website, www.SistaSense.com shows you that she’s got a TON to offer. Listen in to this casual conversation between LaShanda and Rosetta as they discuss LaShanda’s story, technology, productivity, and why every black woman can step beyond where she’s at to open up new doors of opportunity, if she’ll just do it. It’s all in this episode.

The technical side of an #OnlineBusiness doesn’t have to be difficult. Here’s help

Click To Tweet

So, are you ready to start making money online?

LaShanda specializes in teaching women just like you how to do exactly that! She believes that by making the most of your skills and developing multiple ways to make money online, any woman can grow into a successful work at home career of her own, be her own boss, and set the terms of her life the way that SHE wants them to be. Is that the kind of help you’re looking for? It’s a tough journey, but you’ve got a sister like LaShanda to help you navigate your course. Set aside some time to listen to her journey on this episode and be ready for some inspiration to reach out and touch you!

It only takes one step to get you rolling toward an entirely new life.

LaShanda’s story is not all that uncommon. LIke many online entrepreneurs, her present business didn’t start out as a “business” at all. At first, it was a hobby, fueled by her interest in technology and a desire to see what she could do with it. From there it turned into a side hustle (a part time job on the side) until now, she works at home running her own business. And a big part of her heart is to help black women see that there really ARE people like them out there who are becoming successful building their own businesses and brands. LaShanda is an example to inspire you to take that first step. What are you waiting for? Come listen to LaShanda’s story and let it spark a dream inside of you.

The success of your business depends on the company you keep.

That is one of LaShanda Henry’s favorite statements. It’s a lesson she’s learned over the years as she turned an interest into a hobby, a hobby into a side hustle, and that side hustle into her own full time, work from home business. What it means practically is that she had to find women like herself who were eager to become successful doing their own thing, building a business that could support them and take care of their families. And she’s done exactly that. Now she runs www.SistaSense.com and has created an online community for Black Business Women at http://network.mybbwo.com/ . What company are you keeping? Do you need to find those women who can inspire you? Start by taking a listen to this episode. LaShanda and Rosetta are happy to inspire and motivate you to take the next steps.

“The success of your business depends on the company you keep.” – LaShanda Henry

HBW 001: You Can’t Get Rich When You’re Angry: A Conversation with Dr. Venus Opal Reese

October 5, 2015 | By Rosetta |

happy black woman podcast_feat _Dr. Venus Opal Reese_capitals_72dpi

Get ready for a wonderful ride into the depths of inspiration and courage. You’re about to meet Dr. Venus Opal Reese, a powerfully impactful black woman who is no stranger to hardship OR success. Dr. Venus was an abandoned teen, left on the streets to fend for herself when a heroic teacher at her school took her in and believed in her, setting her on a new course that would change the lives of hundreds, even thousands of women in the world today. In this episode you’re going to hear Dr. Venus’ story, how she views the situations black women face today, and what she is called to do to empower and equip those women for greatness.

You’ve been told a lie.

Dr. Venus strongly believes that black women today are living out a lie that’s been foisted on them for many years. They’ve played out the role of workhorse when their destiny is actually something far greater. Her conviction is that black women need to change the story they’re telling themselves, the stories that go on in their own minds so they can liberate themselves from the drudgery of the past and break into a life of freedom, personally and financially. Listen in to this conversation as Dr. Venus shares what the lie is and how to break free from it. If you listen closely, you’ll hear your own story and possibly discover your own destiny.

We’ve been told that income depends on work, when it really depends on knowledge

You can’t get rich when you’re angry.

That’s one of Dr. Venus Opal Reese’s core beliefs. She believes that love, peace, and the ability to build a vast financial storehouse all flow from the same place, so those negative emotions like hatred, jealousy, bitterness, and anger will block you receiving the money that is meant to be yours. What is the cure? You’ve got to experience healing in your heart before anything else. You’ve got to learn how to let the past go so you can move beyond it and experience the freedom that is your birthright. Pay attention to this episode, ladies. Dr. Venus has a lot to share that will help you throw off your chains, if you will let her.

Don’t be afraid to set amazingly lofty goals for yourself.

It’s that same fear that will hold you back from accomplishing them, so you ‘ve got to start by being willing to name the goal. Write it down. Speak it out loud. Do what it takes to convince yourself that the years of not believing in yourself ARE NOT GOING TO hold you back from taking hold of that goal. Once you’ve done that, you’re ready to begin the practical steps of planning how you’re going to achieve that goal. But be careful, goals are not predictions, they are just plans. As you diligently work toward the accomplishment of your goal, remain flexible to receive other blessings you didn’t even know to dream about. Listen to this episode to hear more of Dr. Venus’ thoughts about how make and work toward your goals.

“Your goals are a plan, not a prediction!” – Dr. Venus Opal Reese

Who inspires a successful millionaire black woman like Dr. Venus?

It’s not the kind of person you might expect. The person who inspires Dr. Venus is the woman who took her in off the streets, and according to her own account, saved her life. That is the kind of woman Dr. Venus wants to be. It’s that woman’s bravery and love that inspires Dr. Venus day after day. She’s living up to the potential that dear woman saw in her before she was able to see it in herself. Who inspires you? Who is it that you want to be like, to model yourself after, to honor with your life? hear Dr. Venus’ description of this dear woman and perhaps you’ll be able to find your own inspiration at the same time.

This podcast is not for everyone…

There are people who are very happy and comfortable with their life the way it is at present. That’s great. Really. Those people probably won’t be interested in this show. There’s too much shaking up of the status quo going on here, too much rocking the boat. So who IS this show for? It’s for black women who want to be free, black women who want to set the terms for their own lives and build the happiness and lifestyle they’ve only dreamed of. But equally important, it’s for women who are willing to step out and take action. If you won’t do that, there’s nobody who will. So listen in to hear Rosetta tell her story of stepping out. Maybe it will encourage you to take some steps of your own.

Rosetta’s move from working as a successful nonprofit professional to becoming an entrepreneur, speaker, and coach.

Rosetta had a pretty comfortable job. She was paid well. Everything was going her way. But something happened she didn’t expect. People began inviting her to speak at their companies and events, asking her to share the wisdom she’d learned in her comfortable job. So Rosetta started traveling, speaking, experiencing the new things you can only experience when you’re on the road traveling the globe. That’s when she began to realize that the 9 to 5 corporate role she was in was actually very limiting. That was the first time she began to think that maybe she could step out of that comfortable job and begin a life of her own making. The story is incredible, and you can hear the rest of it on this episode of the podcast.

Rosetta’s year of liberation…

It was 2010 when all the pieces came together and Rosetta made her fateful decision. She quit her corporate job in the nonprofit sector and began her entrepreneurial career. The rest is history. Rosetta has traveled the world seeing sights she never thought she’d see and meeting people and having opportunities that she never dreamed. Her story is one of inspiration, hope, and courage. Rosetta has begun this podcast to help you learn how to do the very same thing in your life. So be sure to listen in during those spare moments of your day – when you exercise, drive, or do chores or busywork. Redeem those moments to further your own education, encourage your heart, and move yourself step by tiny step into the life of your dreams. You can do it, and Rosetta is here to help.

What you can expect from the Happy Black Woman Podcast

Rosetta’s mission is to help women transform their lives through personal development and entrepreneurship. It’s about more than Rosetta, it’s through the community she’s been able to establish at www.HappyBlackWoman.com. This podcast is a new resource she’s going to be using toward that end. She’ll be featuring inspirational stories, expert guests, sharing her own insights and coaching tips, and doing it all to help you move your life to the next level. Let Rosetta know what you think!
